I was born in Warren, Minnesota in 1959, and grew up in Southwestern Minnesota, in the small towns of Round Lake, Chandler, and Verdi. I graduated from Henderson Public High School in Henderson, Minnesota, in 1978; graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1982; and graduated from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1984.
I began my legal career by representing defendants and insurance companies in lawsuits. By 1991, I had tried a sufficient number of cases such that I could take the examination tests necessary to be recognized as a "Nationally Board Certified Trial Lawyer" by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. I have passed those tests and have held that prestigious honor continuously since 1991. In 1996, I stopped representing insurance companies and I began to represent families who had family members killed or seriously injured by others. Since 1996, I have represented only these families.
Since I have been a lawyer I have tried 43 cases to juries all over the US and I have negotiated settlements in thousands of other cases. I have tried serious injury/wrongful death cases to juries in Arizona, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. I have negotiated settlements for clients who live in California, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Illinois, New Hampshire, Georgia, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
More than 10 years ago, I realized that what I enjoyed most about being an attorney was that I got the chance to know people well, and to help them during difficult times. Since then, I have limited the number of cases that I take so that I have enough time to build a strong relationship with each client that I have. I also decided that in order to help these families, I would reduce my attorney fees to 30% in all cases involving catastrophic injuries or deaths, and in all cases involving injuries to children. By reducing my attorney fees, I can increase the amount available to my clients.
This is the way that I practice law. If this approach makes sense to you, please contact me if I can help you, or someone you know.
A Few Client Testimonials
"My wife and I just received our settlement check and could not be happier with it. I believe you provided us with superior representation that we could not have gotten elsewhere."
"I was particularly impressed by your willingness to meet with us at our house as often as we wished, something I don’t think many other attorneys would do. I was equally impressed by the fact that you always quickly returned our telephone calls and kept us updated on the status of our case."
"Thanks again for all your help. I would recommend you to anyone who needs an attorney in the future."
"I cannot recommend you highly enough. I’ve never heard of an attorney meeting his client at her doctor’s office or of one who returned all telephone calls so promptly. You were always available to us and always willing to help us in whatever way you possibly could."
"I was more than happy with the partial settlement of my claims and know you will obtain the maximum possible dollars for the remainder of my claims."
