Juries usually do not award significant damages in an accident case unless there has been a significant injury, and insurance companies usually do not offer significant settlements unless there has been a significant injury. Examples of serious injuries are: a broken bone or broken bones, scarring, an injury requiring surgery or surgeries, amputation injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. (These injuries are defined elsewhere in this website).

For many years I have represented the families of people who have been seriously injured in motorcycle, car, or truck accidents. I have represented families in California, Georgia, Iowa Lawyer, Minnesota Lawyer, Missouri Lawyer, Nebraska Lawyer, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin in their accident cases. I have negotiated settlements for these families, or I have gone to trial on their behalf.

The people who have been injured have the right to have a jury determine the responsibility of the negligent person. Those injured can recover damages, (in other words, the person responsible has to try to put the injured people back where they would have been had they not been injured). In some states, there is a requirement that a person suffer a permanent injury before they can seek damages from the person who injured them. (A permanent injury is one that will remain throughout the injured person’s life). In the states that do not have a permanent injury requirement, juries usually do not award significant damages unless there has been a significant injury.

In most accidents people do not suffer serious injuries; but, in some accidents, the forces involved are so strong that the injured people suffer permanent injuries. These injuries can cause limitations and disabilities that the victims will have forever. Examples of these injuries are amputation injuries, traumatic brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries. (These injuries are defined elsewhere in this website).

Accidents can occur without anyone being at fault; however, it is much more common for accidents to occur because someone was negligent or careless. The injured person has the right to have a jury decide the responsibility of the negligent person, and the jury decides the amount of damages. (Damages are an amount of money to try to put the injured person where he or she would have been had they not been injured). In some states, there is a requirement that a person suffer a permanent injury before they can seek damages from the person who injured them. (A permanent injury is one that will remain throughout the injured person’s life). In the states that do not have a permanent injury requirement, juries do not award large damage amounts unless there has been a severe injury.

If the person who caused the injury has insurance, the insurance company decides how much they are willing to pay to settle the case. An injured person must have someone on their side who can communicate the enormity of the case to the insurance company. If the insurance company is not willing to pay an adequate amount for the injury suffered; then the only option for the victim is to start a lawsuit. At that point, the victim needs someone on their side who has tried catastrophic injury cases to a jury. I am an experienced trial lawyer, and I have experience in negotiating with insurance companies in catastrophic injury cases, and if they do not offer enough money in settlement negotiations, I am experienced in trying the case to a jury. I have tried catastrophic injury cases to juries in Iowa and Minnesota.

For many years, I have represented the families of people who have suffered serious injuries in car accidents, motorcycle accidents, pedestrian accidents, school bus accidents, and truck accidents. Drunk drivers caused many of these accidents. I have represented families in California, Georgia, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin in serious accident cases. I would be happy to meet you, at a place most convenient for you, to discuss your legal rights, and my qualifications to represent you in your drunk driving accident case.
